P.s. New layout for the blog. And if anyone actually thinks that the new name for the blog signals hubris, well, you need to laugh a little more.

Day 32

THere's no moving backgrounds yet so it looks like one of those classic nightmare scenarios. He's running and running, turns a corner and then his legs receive a sharp pain...

...and here's what happens next:

Giving the run another try.

Trying the runs on 2's (thanks Mr. Carlo).

DAY 30

Yeah, I feel like a chicken running around with my head cut off.

If i can JUST get over this run cycle...something cool will happen after it (ignore the first Quicktime box; Quicktime is just being a retard)...what's up with Blogger today? All the video is blacked out

Day 29

Yeah, I needed a little help from someone named MAYA for a run in perspective. So sue me.

Day 27

The Boss has just realized that a disgruntled assistant is a force to be reckoned with.

Day 26

Hmm....I think the doll is experiencing technical difficulties, or a delay in response.

Day 25

Something's wrong-this is where I thought I'd be in February. I guess this is what happens when I work on a film like it's a job. Better to be ahead of sched in case anything goes wrong (like rewriting the third act--which I've had to do on all of my films since '06). But this one, knock on wood, I've had a very specific idea for how it would end from day 1. In fact it was the first thing I wrote.

And so it begins:

Day 23

Cute little buddha panda. I wonder what he's hiding inside?

Day 22

Rough animation of the moment Newsom quits his job.

I'm trying this shot from another angle:

This shot is going to get crazier. As written above the scene is the usual "clearing out of the desk when a character quits" scene with a different twist: We're going to see him throw his stuff into the cardboard box he is holding without any cuts or edits (i.e., like attaching a camera to an actor's waist). Sort of what Mark Romanek did to Mick Jagger in the "God Gave Me Everything I Want" video:
I think it'll be interesting to see how this technique turns out with a stylized character!

Day 20

So here is where it's revealed the Boss, Korchin, is torturing his Assistant, Newsom, with a doll.

It cross-cuts to this scene. I'm not sure if I'm gonna have the wastebasket smack Newsom in the face. The gag is already too broad as it is...maybe I'll think of something different. After this point in the story, Newsom decides he has had enough and packs his things. So perhaps I'll think of something more...humiliating that gets the audience to empathize, "Fuck yeah I'd quit if that shit happened to me!" (though it actually doesn't take a lot these days to quit an abusive job)

Day 18+19

Giving this shot another shot

Rough animation of shot 30

Day 17

Coffee. Coffee. Coffee. I've spent half of today animating a guy picking up a damn coffee cup. Pathetic? Yes...
Considering that this shot is going to be one long take (15 seconds), I'm saving this shot for a better day. There's more to be animated on this one; he has to sip the coffee, take in the flavor, and realize that his assistant didn't buy the coffee from his favorite coffee shop.

The punishment:

Day 15

More freakin walk cycles...this is the Boss's walk cycle. This is how he walks into the office, like a total jackass. Anyhow, one minute of the film is complete. Onwards to minute two.

Day 14

More sitting...ugh. This week I can finally animate the physical comedy bits.

Day 13

Hope your 2010 is off and running.
